Step 1: Start a company. Really it’s that easy.
I will often get asked how I got started in self employment and can firmly attest that the hardest part is just stepping forward and starting.
Becoming a CEO has completely changed my relationships, free time, and purpose in life. I shower as long as I want to in the morning and I no longer deal with rush hour traffic. I spend my time and effort making myself rich instead of someone else. I choose projects and goals that make the world a better place under my terms. No entrepreneur will ever tell you it will be easy. It's not. But in the amazing technology filled world we live anyone can do it. You just have to get started.

There are many ways to be rich. There is what is called "The Mental Wage". That can come from building something, helping someone, or freeing more time for family. Having a rich life is most important. The main thing is that you are in control.

I have had a great idea for too long (yes, it truly is great) but am just not getting started! And then i got another one a couple of weeks back. The best part is working for yourself, cause that's what I have always wanted to do and I know I can't always work for someone…it's just not the same.

+Amanda Blain I can fully relate to this post, and it reminds me of a little story. There was a man who was talking to a monk. The man felt the monk was extra special and never encounter any roadblocks to his spiritual progress. One day the man asked the monk what life is like in the monastery, and the monk says, "I fall and then I get back up. I fall a lot and I get back up." Success is determined by the number of times you are willing to get back up after falling, and the first step of being an entrepreneur is overcoming the fear of failing.

Yeah, starting is easy.. Making it successful…well, that's another story. Lol
Starting a company is easy. It is getting people to pay you that is the hard part.
If a kid today tried to sell lemonade for 25cents….. in 16oz cups with fresh squeezed lemons I would go least a buck. The sugar and lemons would set you back more than what you see in sales unless you had a stand across the street from 200 guys laying asphalt on a July day in florida. Still gotta buy cups and what not as well. But yea nothing to it but to do it 🙂

The people you choose. The area your familiar with. The commitment. The time. And most of all… Resources!
There are of course challenges and nothing comes easy….so of course it's a lot of hard work. But this is more about believing in yourself, taking the plunge, and putting in the effort. And to be ready for adversities. Everyones at different stages so I guess it applies differently to everyone.

Don't agree… There is work required in any goal.. but most people never even get started… Too much fear. "I need a better idea.. " "Better time" .. "After the holidays"… Getting paid comes with hard work and follow through 🙂
I agree with little modification. First step is essential and Important also. Step with strong commitment welthought. I know, to many, who got rich, it was new idea, but they stick to their idea so much, in due course, people started paying enough ( attention and money also).
Great post and interaction, +Amanda Blain! Entrepreneurship can be scary. One suggestion: working in a start-up can really give you a taste of the excitement. It's a slightly safer gateway drug for those aspiring to be a CEO, to own their destiny 🙂
+Amanda Blain Well Put. I meant the exact same thing with my comment above as well, but maybe wasn't able to explain it as well. My comment was more in response to +Rob Gordon and +Darryl Barnes which talk about the challenges, and my explanation that the Original Post is more about "getting started" (of course with planning….and not fear) Well, the original post definitely applies to me really well. I have just thought and thought, but haven't executed….not fear, just don't know what 🙂 guess lack of commitment.
Anyone want to share any ideas? so much money I've wasted on start-ups.
Smile and show respect. Be aware of the people, so you give them what they really like. In this moving times. Sometimes a little bit easier products can be sell with honor.
+Kari Hill Yeah, I have an idea. Someone should manufacture some cardboard cutouts of a classy office that you could use as a background so when we use hangouts of business meetings, no one will know that you are working out of a dive studio apartment – not that this resembles anyone I know 🙂

+Naren Mangtani I run 2 small businesses and work for another.. The key is finding something your either good at our a niche market and exploit it. Nothing to it but to do it.if you don't know anything about food for instance I would advise against going into the restaurant biz
+Kari Hill LOL – you could even have a nice fake window that made it look like you were one the 20th floor of some posh office building showed the a city in the background – maybe the San Francisco Bay or New York.
Here is another manufacturing idea for hangouts. You know those desk lamps that have a flexible arm that you can bend anyway to make the light shine where you want. I would like one of those build for video cams. So you could bend it all over the place to make the cam point where you want. Maybe someone has done that already.
+Rob Gordon It's funny but I really think there would be some buyers for the fake window Lol. That bendable neck idea for camera's just might have been done.
+Rob Gordon I just read your profile. Is it possible you could give me some advise on start-ups at a later time? I've had nothing but flops. I'm not a quitter but I do believe I have become overly cautious.
That is totally possible. Ask Me charlysplaces@gmail.com We might not use cardboard but foldable background is what I would suggest. Very inexpensive way to look high end and have cash to do the important stuff.

I would love to start my own business. I just don't know what kind of business to start. I don't really have any skills. I've been a stay at home mom for almost 10 years.
Seth Godin recently talked about the problems of the recession as well as the opportunity of new social media tools, he stated;
'The thing is, we still live in a world that's filled with opportunity. In fact, we have more than an opportunity — we have an obligation. An obligation to spend our time doing great things. To find ideas that matter and to share them. To push ourselves and the people around us to demonstrate gratitude, insight, and inspiration. To take risks and to make the world better by being amazing'.
It's a big ask, but you can't argue that we on google + don't have the tools to achieve the goals above…all it needs is a little imagination.

Ok let me tell you my story the quick version. About 3 years ago was laid off from gr8 fortune 500 position on the way up. Found another job with a med device startup but the passion was gone.
That company folded and I knew I wanted to do my own thing but could not figure out what so I took a contract position.
Began to develop chronic pain problems that got to the point I had to quit. I literally wanted to crawl under a rock and die.
After 6 months of despair, sadness, and self pity I figured soc media was the thing to do b/c could work from home. Started w Twitter and began to build following and to understand platform.
Minute I heard about Google Plus I jumped on board. Through G+ I became involved in +Media Tapper. I later met +Brock Predovich and +Yifat Cohen and am collaborating with them on GPlus Decoded. Through them I met +Adeline Rem and am working with her to develop an affiliate mktg program for +CHOCbite
I now work from home, work with the most amazing people you would ever want to meet and work in the world of Chocolate. Doesn't get better than that

Over the next decade or two the world will change in incredible ways. It will be rough, especially for those who choose the employment route. While not easy, being self employed will end up giving one the most rewards. Go forth and create!
Making the leap is certainly one of the tougher steps… followed closely by "becoming a successful entrepreneur" .
Having started 4 or 5 companies, I can speak from experience that it is all hard work most of the time. You just have to hold out until you find that sweet spot of rewards versus time invested.
Overall, stay motivated, continually set goals, and keep a schedule of some kind. It's all too easy to become lax in your efforts, so set your own "business hours" and stick to them as often as possible to build a routine of successful behaviors.

Sounds awesome. my company as you can see from the videos I offer businesses the opportunity to market & brand their business through video technology. I know there are a bunch of companies that offer free webinar, meeting places & you have you tube. None of them offer these suites of software and they own your stuff.
Just do it…. Give it a go
