Watching someone play VR can be pretty funny at times, but wouldn’t it be better if the people around you could see what you are doing? This is easy to do with a few simply steps. This guide will go over how to cast Oculus Quest 2 VR to Computer, how to cast Oculus Quest 2 VR to TV, and how to do Mixed Reality for Oculus Quest 2.
This one is really easy and requires no extra hardware besides your computer.
1. Go to Oculus.com/casting in your web browser on your computer.
2. Sign in to your Oculus Account in the browser. You should see this screen. Chrome and Microsoft edge are supported.
3. Then follow the on screen directions in your headset. Simply click on the Oculus button in your headset, Sharing from the main menu, Cast and Computer.
That’s it! Those around you can see what you are doing on your Oculus Quest 2 on the Computer. Want to cast from Oculus Quest 2 to your phone? You can also do the exact same steps above but open Oculus App on your phone and then Select ‘Oculus App’ from the Oculus quest 2 casting menu and then you are casting from your Oculus Quest 2 to your Phone just as easily.
Only certain Smart TV’s will work with casting from Oculus Quest 2. Your Smart TV needs to be a Chromecast compatible Smart TV. If you are finding that your TV is not showing up you probably do not have a Chromecast SmartTV. You can purchase a Google Chromecast, Google Chromecast Ultra, NVIDIA Shield or an Amazon Firestick instead to accomplish the streaming.
This way is not officially supported but if you are Team Apple here is a work around you can use to get your Oculus Quest 2 to stream to your Apple TV.
You may experience some lag with this method but it’s worth a shot.
As you can see all of these are pretty straight forward and easy to do. With just a few clicks you can be streaming your Oculus Quest 2 to your TV no problem.
If you want to do Mixed Reality it Is a quite a bit more complicated. You need a full Green screen setup and detailed software steps to go through.
Mixed reality is when you mix your real, physical, you with the VR games you are seeing in your headset. Beat saber in Mixed reality is a very popular example. It should be noted that not all game allow you to do Mixed reality. It has to be enabled by the developer.
A PC that syncs up to your Oculus Quest 2. The games you are playing will need to be on Steam VR not Native Oculus Quest 2 apps.
A Webcam. Any webcam will do here. Logitech webcam you already have is all you need. If you are looking for a specific recommendation you can try the Logitech BRIO Ultra HD Webcam This webcam allows for wide angle 4k streaming and many advanced feature but as mentioned any Webcam will do.
A Green Screen and possibly a Green floor. You can cut yourself off at the waist if you don’t want to deal with the floor.
Lights for the play area.
OVR Advanced Settings – This is your playspace mover. It allows you to rotate the room to make sure your Gaming set up matches the direction you want it to in the game. You can see our detailed guide for getting that setup here.
The Liv software requires quite a few steps for getting everything set up right. I strongly recommend checking out this detailed walkthrough of each step by Naysy on Youtube.
