Geek things we all think about sometimes...

Google+ Is Now The Number 2 Social Network For Active Users

In relation to the Google Plus talk I did last month… Some seriously awesome numbers for G+…. BRING IT! 🙂

On a side note… why does no only call Pinterest or Tumblr a "ghost town"… the difference in user base between them and Google+ is beyond  hilarious to me at this point.

Brands… are you paying attention yet? 😉

Google+ grows to become 2nd largest social platform globally

Wow, that was quick! Like I had said before it was only a matter of time!

Google+, who despite being branded a failure or ghost town by large portions of the media, grew in terms of active usage by 27% to 343m users to become the number 2 social platform. Interestingly for Google, YouTube (not previously tracked by us as a social platform) comes in at number 3, demonstrating the immense opportunity of linking Google’s services through the G+ social layer. This is also a key indication of why Google+ integrated with the Google product set is so key to the future of search and the internet. We’ve got more coming on Google+ later this week as well.

+Amanda Blain; very curious to know what the breakdown by country of these numbers are – when I talk to people here in the UK (oh, trust me, I've gotten just a little evangelical), it's still like presenting fire to the first caveman. Vacant, bewildered…

  29. Jennifer Bailey says

I still haven't met a single person in real life, in over a year, who has any clue what Google+ even is at all. I have no idea how the people who are here are finding it….but it isn't remotely ubiquitous yet.

  30. Amanda Blain says

Thats changed for real in the last 6 months…. +Jennifer Bailey …  More and more people telling me they are on it.. still not sure exactly how to use it.. (but they love hangouts) and then have lots of questions…  People are recognizing me AT places even 😛

  31. Jennifer Bailey says

It's actually pretty embarrassing, trying to explain it and talk about my follower count. It's like being prom queen on Jupiter. No one on Earth gives a shit.

I won't give it up completely but I would love to be able to go through and flush my follower base with a banhammer. I might come back for good if I could do that.

Not bad for a 'ghost town' huh?  Still a ways to go to catch "That other one"…but I can see it happening.

waste of time as ever ,
can you see all who added you ?  NO
can you see who visited profile , NO

can you chat in private  without using gmail chat ? NO

99% of posts are as spam from sufferers of OCD  same as facebook

+Junius Jones+Doug Wittrock my thoughts exactly. Let them have the pole position, the spam, and the ghost accounts.

  75. Alan Bell says

do we want brands to start paying attention? would that improve matters?

  76. Amanda Blain says

Click on circles … Who's added you. All there +Ellie Guest … And which network let's you see who's looked at your profile? Fb? Twitter? Pinterest? Nope… Not a one 😉 chat? Its on the right.. Add people to circle and enable under privacy… No gmail required…. Anything else ?

  77. Ellie Guest says

    +Amanda Blain
try again without condescending unless you wish tit for tat . with + 🙂

NO you can click on all you like , there is NO simlpe way of seeing ALL who have added you

most  FREE forums have private messaging , most have , see who looks at profile

enabling under privacy adds nothing . do not cherry pick what you answer unless you simply have no  answer seems you rule

its quite ignorant and typically American darling

have a nice day  preening your self importance

  78. Greg Smith says

I think Google+ knocks the socks off Facebook and Twitter in terms of social marketing or media.

  79. Amanda Blain says

+Ellie Guest I'm Canadian. You didn't actually try a thing I wrote because it does indeed do all you asked…. And please recall you came on my page and made these comments. I dont know you nor have i commented on your page…I'm only answering your request… Please have a pleasant day.

  80. Clinton Darion says

Lol china's population really helps it.

  81. Leonard Sultana says

The two social medias I just don't get are Pinterest and LinkedIn; the latter, I'm told, is all about business connections – fine, but I'd hardly call that a 'social' thing – and the former I just don't understand the concept of at all.

I'm doing what I can to spread the word about Google+ here in the UK – setting up Communities and getting friends involved, taking time to explain by email when people ask me about what I'm using, cross-posting but always providing a link to the source (+Friends+Me is a boon for this), etc.

The one thing I haven't done, this 'killer draw' you talk about, +Amanda Blain? Participate in a Hangout! I've watched one, I've commented on one – never actually Hungout! I'd like to use it like a interactive broadcast of a live stream of one of my DJ gigs this year… Something to research and give a shot at.

and here we are. more and more come to g+ and start to like it alot !

  84. Hannie Scott-Cook says

    no tumblr?

  85. Adrian Martin says

Google+ is doing such a kick ass job at security and privacy that people can even deny that they're using it, but could very well be on it 24/7. THAT is progress and caring about a user's desire for control. Google is standing by their motto: Don't Be Evil.

  90. Christopher Lamke says

Great point, +Amanda Blain. There seems to be an inherent bias against Google Plus in the technical press.

  91. basuki rachmat says

why it named"google +" ? anyone can answer this ..

  92. Joe Diamond says

My initial reaction to this was that I have a hard time believing that Google+ has surpassed Twitter in active usage despite the fact that I soooo want it to be true. However to Google, an active Google+ user is someone that uses a Google+ service which can in fact be just about any part of the Google ecosystem. For example, hitting a +1 on an app in the Google Play Store would count as active usage. Thinking about it this way makes a lot more sense.

  93. Natalie Dombrowski says

I think it is, more likely than not, simple soap box trolling. "I'm here to denigrate something everyone reading this must be invested in!"

Everyone (including me) hates so many aspects of the thing, and the Facebook execs seem to do whatever the hell they please whether people like it or not. So Facebook'll probably go the way of Myspace eventually. Don't know much about Google +, but it seems increasingly poised to take it's place.
