Dyson DC78 Animal Vacuum Technology

Everyday around us technology is advancing at an amazing rate. Our houses are getting smarter and items that we have used for years are being created in new and effective ways. Dyson is a company that has innovated and is known for creating technology that is far above its competitors in the vacuum space. I recently was given the newest Dyson canister – the Dyson DC78 to review and experience the new technology first hand.

A Little Bit of Dyson History

Included in the Dyson DC78 was a small book of history about the Dyson company and its founder. A man called, James dustDyson. He created over 5,127 prototypes of his vacuum cleaner based on cyclone technology. That took 5 years. The initial idea was based off inspirations from a nearby sawmill on how it handles dust and sucked it away with a type of cyclone.

Today Dyson vacuums are known worldwide for the quality, power and “bagless, no loss of suction” products. But the latest round has taken things one step farther. Getting rid of those filters. No rinsing, replacing or purchasing.

““Getting rid of bags solved the frustration of my vacuum losing suction. But washing filters – or worse – buying them, is still a nuisance. Dyson Cinetic™ cyclones are so efficient at separating microscopic particles that everything gets thrust into the bin, and you can forget about fussy filters.”  James Dyson says.

Dust clogs up those filters pretty quickly and you need to rinse or replace them often. Something I must say I usually forget to do.

The Cinetic cyclones is the key and provides Dyson DC78 the “no loss of suction” that beats all others.

The test that manufactures used to keep that claim of “no loss of suction” was actually only tested after ONE full bin of dust. One. Most of us have vacuums for several years (or at least we would like to). But the products on the market today can claim “no loss of suction” on their package if they can prove after one bin use, they suck the same amount.

Dyson engineers have actually spent time learning about real homes and just exactly how vacuums are used, and exactly how much dust accumulates in a 10 year period. All other vacuums lost suction when faced with 10 years of dust. Dyson Cinetic™ technology did not.

That’s powerful stuff.

Key Technology in the Dyson DC78

Dyson Cineticcyclones

I want to talk a little bit about these tiny little cyclones. The Dyson Dc78 turbine head animal has 2 rows of little cyclones. The upper part is a hard material and the bottom a softer one. They oscillate. Because they are bouncing around, it stops the tips from getting clogged with dirt or dust. Dust, pollen, mold, and allergens end up in the bin.

Dyson Ball™ technology

The iconic Dyson Ball is something that most people have seen. Its a small ball that allows for easier maneuverability around your house and furniture. The DC78 includes a ‘central steering mechanism’ that allows easier control.tanglefree

Tangle Free turbine head

Wooooo Pet and long hair folks rejoice! This magical little brush head stops that annoying wrap around the bar nonsense! The unique “tangle free” head is specially designed to pull long items like hair, ribbons, strips of paper, shoelaces and more – straight into the bin.

Carbon fibre turbine head

This is the ‘main’ power brush that comes with the unit.  It has both carbon fibre filaments and nylon bristles. This allows you to go from hardwood floor to carpet in one brush.  Those carbon fibre filaments allow you to get the fine dust particles that are so commonly left behind by other vacuums on hard floors. It’s also all powered by the same great air flow from the unit. No extra cables or power required. There is an easy to use release screw on the side of Dyson DC78 unit that allows you to clean and remove the entire brush section. Great for removing any hair or debris that may get stuck inside.

Pet Grooming toolgroomtool

Use this handy brush attachment to keep fido hair in check. With many brush and grooming tools you have to brush the pet, then yourself, and finally the room from all the hair that’s flying everywhere. This tool allows you to suck the pet hair directly off the animal and into the bin. It also helps reduce allergens because its sucking in the dead skin cells that cause allergies at the same time.

These are just some of the cool tools and technology that Dyson has created to help keep your home clean.

Just How Tested is the Dyson DC78?

–   To ensure it is durable and reliable, Dyson Cinetic™ vacuum has been slammed sideways into steel blocks 200 times in side impact testing.

–   In total Dyson engineers spent 9,000 hours testing Dyson Cinetic™ vacuum; the equivalent of 500 years of vacuuming in the home.

–   Nearly $250,000 CAD was spent on aggressive test dust and Dyson’s test engineers ran our suppliers dust stocks dry.

Well there you have it folks. The technology in the world we live in is advancing every day. I will be writing a more detailed review of the Dyson DC78 in a few weeks but hope you enjoyed an initial look at some of the technology involved in perhaps the world most advanced vacuum.
